I noticed during the process the KB backlight flashed back on, and sure enough after restarting it worked and it is also visible in Device Manager. Step 4: Press and release the power button to turn your Surface back on. Step 3: After you release the buttons, wait 10 seconds. The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons down for at least 15 seconds. Step 2: Press and hold the volume-up button and the power button at the same time for at least 15 seconds and then release both. Step 1: Press and hold the power button on your Surface for 30 seconds and then release it. At no point was the Surface Type Cover Filter Device listed under keyboards in Device Manager.Īnyway, the step to fix it was to do the Two Button Shutdown (which actually turns off the device completely): I ran through all of the usual checks (cleaned contacts, restarted, shut down, uninstalled the update, etc.). This morning the cover stopped working completely (no backlight, kb or touchpad action), after a windows update (may be unrelated). I've had my SP3 running Win 10 for about 2 months (couldn't wait for the SP4) and rarely disconnect the Type cover. I just wanted to document this here so someone else may come across it.
